چکیده

Combustion-induced turbulence is studied in explosions of methane/air a steel sphere with optical access. Rms turbulent velocities, u', created by four peripheral variable speed fans, were measured Particle Image Velocimetry, PIV, which indicated near-uniform, isotropic turbulence, small mean velocities. The gaseous expansion near-spherical propagating flame generated radially outwards velocity unburned mixture, the intensity depended upon burning and volume increase due to combustion. study measure any extra this pulse. Only wave lengths less than circumference can wrinkle velocity, ut. Consequently effective rms at front affecting its propagation, uk', u'. Analysis shows, be function radius. pulse additional enhancing uk'. This enhanced ut, giving further positive feedback. higher value designated as spatial us'. PIV-measured gas velocities are resolved into radial U-r and, us', their profiles. These derived from different equivalence ratios, pressures, temperatures. At radii ut measured, us'/uk' high rates volumetric expansion. ratio attained 2.5, stoichiometric CH4/air. Values those steady-state burners, attributable induced explosions, no such effect burners.

Simulation of premixed turbulent flames

1. Introduction Premixed turbulent flames are of increasing practical importance and remain a significant research challenge in the combustion community. These flames have the potential to operate cleanly and efficiently over a broad range of fuels, and therefore to represent a key element in the implementation of low-emissions burners for a variety of industrial applications. However, it is di...

Transport properties in turbulent premixed flames

In order to evaluate transport properties in turbulent premixed flames, a propagating turbulent premixed flame in an incoming homogeneous isotropic turbulence is directly simulated assuming a single-step irreversible Arrhenius-type reaction. To investigate the production of turbulent kinetic energy in the flame region, Favre averaged transport equation of turbulent kinetic energy along streamwi...

Prediction of combustion-generated noise in non-premixed turbulent flames using large-eddy simulation

Noise generated from technical devices is an increasingly important problem. Jet engines in particular produce sound levels that are not only a nuisance, but may also impair hearing. The noise emitted by such engines is generated by different sources, such as jet exhaust, fans or turbines, and combustion. Increasing restrictions on the allowable noise-emission levels force manufacturers to desi...

Simulation of Lean Premixed Turbulent Combustion

There is considerable technological interest in developing new fuel-flexible combustion systems that can burn fuels such as hydrogen or syngas. Lean premixed systems have the potential to burn these types of fuels with high efficiency and low NOx emissions due to reduced burnt gas temperatures. Although traditional scientific approaches based on theory and laboratory experiment have played esse...

Numerical Simulation of Premixed Turbulent Methane Combustion

In this paper we study turbulent premixed methane flames with swirl using three-dimensional numerical simulation. The simulations are performed using an adaptive time-dependent low Mach number combustion algorithm based on a second-order projection formulation that conserves both species mass and total enthalpy. The species and enthalpy equations are treated using an operator-split approach tha...
